Swala Safaris has been operating safaris for over seven years. They are an accredited member of the Tanzania Association of Tour Operators (TATO) and are licensed to operate safaris by the Tanzania Tourist Agency Licensing Authority (TALA) No. 00009320.

Safari Tariffs include accommodation with all meals, park fees, vehicle with driver-guide, gratuities (see below). Cost does not include laundry, bar drinks, meals in Arusha, and items of a personal nature. Single Room Supplement $35 per night. Family Groups: Children aged 16 and under sharing room with adults/parents 50% discount. Safari dates at own request.

Itineraries in northern Tanzania normally include Lake Manyara, Serengeti and Ngorongoro. Tarangire is highly recommended in the dry season of mid-July to mid-November. If you like to get away from the main tourist route, Mkomazi is ideal; it is recommended for those who have climbed or intend to climb Kilimanjaro or before going on to Zanzibar. If you wish to change accommodation at lodges/hotels/camps please inform us.

ACCOMMODATION. Swala Safaris' own choice of accommodation is below. For other choices of lodges see our Accommodation page for a more complete list of hotels and lodges in northern Tanzania. If you have any preferences please let us know. Lodges in Arusha are on a bed and breakfast basis - please advise if you need to have other meals included. All lodges on safari include breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Arusha: Mount Meru Game Lodge, Rivertrees, Moivaro, or KIA Lodges. Bed and Breakfast.
Tarangire: Tarangire Safari Lodge or Tarangire River Camp or Tamarind.
Serengeti: Ndutu Lodge, Seronera Wildlife Lodge, Lobo Wildlife Lodge, Ikoma Bush Camp.
Lake Manyara: Wild Africa Lodge or Eunoto Resort or Kirurumu Tented Camp.
Ngorongoro Crater: Ngorongoro Farm House or Plantation Lodge.

Ushongo Beach 150 kms north of Dar es Salaam is highly recommended. Ushongo may not have the exotic appeal of Zanzibar but it has a wonderful unspoilt beach. See Tanzania Coast or www.ushongobeach.com .

Nairobi shuttle $35 each way. 0800 and 1400 departures. Five hours.

Low Season 4 April to 31 May: discount 15%. Note that April can be very wet and rather unpleasant when camping.

Tariff does not include park fees, meals in Arusha, bar drinks, bottled mineral water, gratuities/tips (see below), laundry, visas, airport taxes, insurance, emergency evacuation (optional $1 per day/$25 per month), Nairobi shuttle, Serengeti night game drive ($20), and items of a personal nature.

SHUTTLE: Nairobi - Arusha / Arusha - Nairobi. 5 hours. Departures daily at 0800 and 1400 each way. $25 one-way. Will collect and drop off at Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta Airport.

VEHICLES: 4-wheel drive game viewing vehicles in the national parks and game areas; transfers between camps/lodges are by minibus or 4-wheel drive, depending on the area and prevailing conditions. Game viewing vehicles have hatches or are open with a canvas hood. The former seat up to five persons and the latter nine persons. Driver-guides are experienced and knowledgeable in wildlife; their game spotting skills are excellent.

GRATUITIES/TIPS. Your driver-guide makes or breaks a safari. You will depend on him for his observational skills and his knowledge of wildlife. The recommended tip is $15-$20 per day per driver-guide.

PAYMENT may be made by bank transfer or by credit card (Visa/Mastercard/American Express) or by travelers cheques. The Beneficiary Name is Swala Safaris Ltd at their account with either the Arusha branches of NBC (National Bank of Commerce) or Barclays Bank, Arusha Branch. You will be advised of Swala Safaris account number on confirmation of your safari. A non-refundable deposit of 30% is required to make a booking and the balance payable 30 days before the commencement of a safari.

Method of Payment: 1. Bank Transfer. 2. Credit Card. 3. Travellers cheques. 4. Cash (not recommended).

Bank transfer charges are normally in the region of about $40. Credit Card charges are 5%. If you are paying by credit card, your card will be charged initially with the deposit of 30% and the remainder 14 days before the safari. Your payment is thus protected against fraudulent use. An advantage of payi9ng by credit card is there may be benefits such as air miles or insurance cover.

If paying by Credit Card, banks request a fax copy of each side of your credit card and your passport details. Swala's fax number is 255-27-2508424. Have travel insurance to cover last minute incidents that will lead to you canceling a safari, e.g. death or severe illness of a close family member. Normally, Swala Safaris will refund what they themselves do not have to pay or will allow a postponement of the safari subject to the lodges approval of the changes. See Cancellation Policy.

N.B. Hotels and lodges require a 50% deposit on booking a room and the balance payable 30 days in advance. Bank transfers should therefore be done in two amounts. The first 30% on confirmation of a booking and the second on payment of the balance 35 days before the commencement of the safari. Swala Safaris cannot be held responsible for failure to confirm lodge bookings in the event of non-payment. We discourage payment by cash as this is not necessarily the safest way of payment.

INURANCE. It is recommended to take out a travel policy that includes coverage for cancellation owing to unforeseen events. The Flying Doctor Service is from $7 per week to $25 per person per month.
